We install and seal pavers for homes across the city. Our shop is a short drive north in Clearwater.
Pinellas Park lots are flat and low
Most of Pinellas Park is inland and flat, and a lot of it sits low. The city has drainage canals running through it for a reason: heavy summer rain comes down faster than the ground can take it in. On a flat lot that water has no clear place to run. It sits wherever the surface dips, and on a driveway that low spot is often right where you park.
Pavers have one advantage over a poured slab here: the joints between them let some of that water down through the surface. That only helps if the ground underneath was built right. The soil in this part of Florida is mostly sand, and sand that was never graded and compacted shifts every time it gets soaked. The pavers above it sink into dips, and once a section settles, every storm leaves a bigger puddle.
That is why the grading happens before a single paver goes down. We dig out the old surface and set a slope that moves water toward the street or the yard, away from the garage. Then the base gets compacted in layers. A lot with no natural fall needs that slope built in on purpose. Skip this step and a new driveway looks fine for a season, then starts to dip.
- Old surface dug out before the base goes in
- Slope set so rain runs away from the house
- Base compacted in layers, then leveled
- Pavers cut to fit curves and borders
- Joints filled with sand once the pavers are set
Many homes still have the original driveway
A large share of Pinellas Park was built out decades ago, and many homes are single-story concrete block houses. Plenty of those homes still have the driveway that was poured when the house went up. By now that slab has usually cracked in more than one place. Often one section has sunk lower than the rest, and it catches water after every rain.
Patching a cracked slab rarely lasts. The patch fills the gap, but the ground under it keeps moving, and the patch breaks loose again. Pavers handle that movement better because each one is a separate piece. If a spot settles later, the pavers in that area can be lifted and reset on a leveled base. A slab in the same spot would have to be cut out and poured again. Michael Schacter, whose pavers we fixed, wrote on Google: "The team worked quickly and left everything looking brand new."
A new driveway also changes how a plain block house looks from the street. Many streets here have houses of a similar shape, so the driveway and front walk are what set one apart. We help you pick a paver color that goes with the stucco and the roof, plus a pattern that suits the size of the lot. Custom walkways come up often in our Google reviews.
Shade and summer rain turn pavers green
Backyard patios in Pinellas Park get hit hard by the weather. Rain falls on many summer afternoons, and yards stay damp where oaks and fences block the sun. Algae and mildew grow in that damp, and a tan patio can go dark green and slick within a couple of summers. Every hard storm also washes a little sand out of the joints, and weeds move in where the sand used to be.
Pressure washing takes the growth off, and sealing slows down how fast it comes back. The order of the steps matters. We wash the pavers and give them time to dry, and the joints get fresh sand before any sealer goes on. Sealer rolled over dirty or damp pavers locks that grime under a clear coat, where it stays until the sealer wears off. Shivani Haripal wrote on Google: "They did an awesome job sealing our pool deck! It looks fantastic."
Pool decks get the hardest use of any paving at the house, with wet bare feet on them all summer. We install travertine and other pool pavers, and travertine is a common pick because it tends to stay cooler underfoot than concrete. The deck also needs a slight slope that carries water away from the pool and toward the lawn or a drain. When that slope is wrong, splash water collects against the house or the screen enclosure.
